LAURA AND LAURIER'S HOUSE

This is Laura's house and it's right on schedule .It will be nice to have them so close.
They sold their house this week after just one week of being on the market .
Possessing date is October 15th . They have great view of our place and the field across the road .The kids are excited and I can't wait .

This is Megan 9 our soon to be new neighbor, using a pea shooter.This the kind of fun she has with grandpa .She is aiming at the bottle in the garden and she's a good shot.




 

MY GARDEN TOUR 2009

Here is some pictures of my garden tour that we had on Sunday July 19th. Smell the Flowers Garden Tour to benefit the Steinback area Soup Kitchen. The tour was from 12:00 to 5:00 .There was 10 gardens opened to the people that had bought tickets .I had 46 people come through my yard by 4:00 out of the 100 tickets sold.I'm told they usually sell 200- 300 tickets .I welcomed some of the people not all.Some I spoke to wanted to know about my Martagons Lilies, not knowing what they are .There were mothers and daughters ,husbands and wives ,two men came together.It was a nice day to have a garden tour.

John and I had to leave for a BBQ at his sister so some came while we were gone .
The lady in charge never got back to me till the day before ,I wasn't even sure I was still on their list .She apologized for not coming to see my garden before hand. But she was totally impressed when she put the sign up at the road .
The people that came were very impressed at the beauty and all the different plants I had and that there were no weeds. It was a nice day for all even me I didn't stress about it.

I was glad the yard looked nice ,considering the colder than normal weather we've had . Seems the plants don't mind .I was holding off on moving plants before the tour,so now I can .

 

My POND

Well I must not have finish this post .My pond is doing great this year.
The lilies are in bloom .I have only ever used bull rush roots and water plants to keep the water clean .I haven't decided if I want hydro there after all these years .
My son-inlaw Laurier is bring home a trencher .He said he'd do it ,but I think I'll pass .The only thing I can think that I would need it for would be for a fountain?I will have to think on it some more .

 

 

SUMMER NO WHERE IN SIGHT

Hi there sorry I haven't blogged in a while .Our weather is still no better ,we just had cold temperatures in the high +38F range with lows of 30F.I was on vacation last week and had a few good days so I did lots of yard work. Plants in the ground aren't doing so well its amazing how they tolerated this really cold spell. Mined you I covered the martagons with 5 gallon pails,the lilies and the hostas were just at ground level so no harm to them the irises survived . Of coarse no annuals have been planted.My plants in the greenhouse are getting big ,there is no room to turn around .
Tuesday May 12th Laura and Laurier's house next door construction got under way, all very exciting to watch.We just came back from a BBQ and a bon fire at their house,we were celebrating Eric's 13th birthday which is on May 24th .Its hard to get together with all their busy schedules also this is a long week-end for us Canadians (Victoria DAY )the Queen's Birthday.

APRIL FOOL

Its April 1st but it looks more like January 1st.
Oh, Mother Nature just loves to play tricks on us some times .

 

BEING INSPIRED

Looking at all those gorgeous cakes was inspiring.
The first day of spring break brought the grand kids for a sleepover.
Thus forcing grandma to think of what to do ,to keep Megan and Breanne entertained.
With no plan in mind , we made colored play dough.The girls measured the ingredients I started with a little yellow chick,and the girls were impressed asking how do I know how to do this ? ie my snow sculptures now my little chick .
I said that I start off with something in mind ,thinking I can do it and if it turns out good and if it looks like something else that's OK to.So now we have a little yellow chick what else ??
So Shirley this is where I thought of you and your gorgeous cakes.So I went to the cupboard and got some fun shaped foil cups.I had bought at the $store for such an occasion but of coarse, I had no eggs to make a cake .The girls didn't know what I was going to do but they took my lead and did great.Breanne's is a decorated Easter Egg, and Megan's has the bunnies on top of it . Mine is the one with the flowers on it I used pressed flowers from my yard.I showed the girls your video of your cakes they were oohing and oohing.Oh can't leave Riley out, he made a nice happy face .While we were looking at my blog, the girls found all my spelling mistakes so we did the edits .They hadn't seen my blog before.I explained it to them, and then announced to them ,that I now was a publisher (because I had to click the publish post ).They laughed and looked at me and said that I had to many mistakes .


 

MADYSON'S GYMNASTIC COMPETITION

This was last Saturday at the Max Bell Center at the University of Manitoba.
Mady's (far right in group picture) first competition,she did well for a shy girl and she loved every minute of it .
She has two more competition before its over for the season.They came in first (only age group ). We enjoyed watching all the amazing performances .

 

HURRY HURRY SPRING MELT DOWN

Here is my one and only snow sculpture for this year .

The kids were always expecting to see a sculpture made when they would come over .

So today after my walk, I thought that I would surprise them.
The weather has been so nice the past 3 days.This guy was melting as I was making him,I had to put his eyes back in a few times . Riley and Breanne spotted him right away.I had to tell them what it was ,if you haven't guessed yet.I'll tell you it's a polar bear fishing .I still hadn't put the branch ( fishing rod ) in his hands in these pictures .

SPRING SHOULD BE ON ITS WAY

Got up to a minus 9F. its colder than that with the windchill .Its tough being on the edge of winter and spring .But spring will come overnight not to despair. Here are some pictures of my seedlings.Started making geranium slips and ivy slips a few weeks ago .Planted some lobelias , snapdragons peppers , the Wild Millet ( corn familly )was doing good this morning but tonight I think the cat ate one .Probably thought it was grass .Last night I started more lobelias ,cleome , chilean vine ,petunias more millet ,zinnias maybe to early for the zinnias I'll see . Except for the lobelias I use seed collected from last year .So whatever grows is still a surprise to me .I usually start my greenhouse up April 1st.I won't rush it this year since I have more grow lights downstairs .I put a table behind the couch in the living room ,brought up plants from downstairs to make room for my seedlings, the living room is bright and sunny at this time of the year . I just hope to move that table out of there by Easter .This week I'll look at my cannas ,and other bulbs .This year I will start the callas
once I'm in the greenhouse,I usually start them to soon . I also started slips from a plant I over wintered called Dimond Frost they are easy to start, they root in water and are 4.00 each to buy ,its a container plant ,makes a nice show of tiny little white blooms. I seed more than I need so I can give to the girls .Just another busy day and more to come .

KATHRYN'S KIDS HAVING FUN

This was February 16th, its our newest holiday.Its called Louis Riel Day .Louis Riel is mentioned in our family history, he was a metis leader in 1800s .Under his leadership stopped the surveying of their land by the goverment .This surveying interruption was a turning point in the creation of Manitoba . In the end some called him a traitor some called him a hereo in any case we got a day off out of it . Since Kathryn has a day care in her home ,she was free to come over early and stay for supper ,that doesn't happen often any more, since the kids in her care go home at 5:30 .So this was a treat .

WINTER IN MANITOBA

This was the icy day we had that the kids had no school .Megan and I started our snowman ,but the snow was so heavy that we got tired real quick and threw snowballs at each other .My snowman turned out to be just a block of ice . John ended up pulling them around the yard giving them rides, they had a good time .

HOME IMPROVEMENTS

Hi everyone,just wanted to say hi and to say that the home improvements are almost done .
The painting and the floors are done.Looks good the spare bedroom now looks like a bedroom.
We are still looking for pine wood 30" doors ,very hard to get ????
The economy is on all our minds .Things
are starting to fall apart in this country
as well.Whats there to say about that other than these are scary times for all of us .Hope all is well with all of yous.Laura our daughter has sold her house in Lorette.She will be building next door in a few months.That will be so exciting
to watch the house go up and to have the grand kids in walking distance .We had a ice storm a few weeks ago and school was cancelled.The kids were to stay home,Eric is 13 and Megan is 9 but she called grandma to see if they could come over.So off I went on some pretty bad icy roads (I also had to see for myself how bad the roads were to see if I was going to go to work at 3:00 )Their dad was not happy that they called me , all went well and we had a good time played outside in the rain .Its just one of three ice storms that we've had this winter .I am a pro at driving on ice grrrr.

FINDING MY WAY AROUND

Hey how about that !!!!.I just used a photo ????Oh I don't even know what you call this ,I'll call it a program that I managed to download , its call PICASA .It gathered all my pictures and I can do many things with it I'm finding . Like I don't even have to be on my blog to send pictures .All I have to do is click blog this and it goes directly into my blog how smart is that. I have tried to download SMILEBOX AND PHOTO BUCKET,I do so enjoy yours . Sorry that I'm so all over the place with my blog .I'm a backwards kind of gal,I have notice that about myself .If there's a hard way to go about something I'll find it .Wondering if there is a way to move my November blog in its proper order(like before my Christmas blogs )? Well so long its really late , 1:50 am here despite what will be displayed on the blog.The carpet fellow will be here between 8:00 and 9:00 .I think I was an owl in a previous life.

COMPANY'S COMING

 

This was the beginning of November when my brother Gabe and his wife Shirley and daughter Jody and her two sweet friendly little kids Mckenzie and Skyler came for a visit from Salt Lake City Utah.The weather sure wasn't nice for November ,it was cold with blizzard like conditions .We did go shopping on Friday ,manage to find the great Canadian Root store,that had been relocated and also that we were given wrong information on how to find it . So after driving from one end to the other of our fair city .I think it was worth the trip, I did some Christmas shopping for the grand kids.Shirley and Jody made some good buys to bring back home .It was great to have them over.

HOME IMPROVEMENTS

We are still in the middle of our home renovations.
We are in the master bedroom now John will start painting
tomorrow Friday.The rugs will be installed on Thursday of next week .
John will be glad that its coming to an end .Because he bought himself
a 1999 truck at autopak auction, it needs some work and he's anxious
to get started on it . Oh I forgot he won't be finished just yet
cause I want all new doors to the bedrooms ,bathroom ,closets in the hall.
The grand kids are asking if I will be doing some snow sculptures ,they keep expecting to see something when they they pull in the yard .
I guess I got to get my butt out there . I am still having trouble with my blog .
Seems that it won't let me download pictures anymore ,I wanted to post a group picture of all the grandkids together ,I will keep trying.

Found My Blog

Hi I'm back ,I had lost my blog there for a while .
The home improvements are going slow.
Feels like I can't turn around, no its true
I can't turn around.There is so much clutter
and dust I don't know where to start.
We had so much trouble with the old paint in the
spare room .
I had just finish with the priming, when I saw a tiny spec
I scraped it and lifted the old paint.
I ended up peeling it all off ,with some great difficulty and varnish remover .
We must Carry on ,John is putting the laminate floor down today ,it will take him two days.And the paint color I chose for the spare room is pretty much the same color that I chose for the computer room despite having gone to different stores.I was at our Canadian Tire and decided to buy Debbie Travis paint for the spare room .So when I put the paint sample against the painted walls there is not much difference . Besides I've had trouble before in that spare room everytime I paint .I don't know why ?????Waiting to see how John is going to do with the floor .
Meanwhile Shirley and Andre with Laura and Laurier went to Mexico for a week with the kids .I 'm sure the kids are having a blast thinking and missing them alot .

So the girls have a resemblance, if you notice.
These girls are very close to each other.

WHILE WE WEREN'T LOOKING

While we weren't looking, Jaxon had climbed
a chair and enjoying a taste of blueberry pie that was for dessert.
I guess he just couldn't wait .

Hi there, I'm trying so hard to get to blog .I finally got an image through.I've tried many I think its a computer cliche.Today is my day off and I started some badly needed home improvements. I started in the computer room by tearing down the wall paper. We will be painting the bedrooms and putting down laminate flooring in this room and the spare room .Rugs in the master bedroom and hallway .I sure don't like all the disruption,furniture all over the place.Tomorrow I will go looking for paint samples. Meanwhile I will carry on learning more about blogging .

A New Year And A New Start

Happy New Year everyone, my New Years resolution is to get this blog up and going.I have been thinking on this to much and I have just decided to just do it.My life is pleasantly boring .One day just rolls into the next and seem the same .Get up clean house then go to work,I work at a center for the mentally challenged.I have been there for 26 years working from 3:30 to 11:45.I could have been on days a long time ago,my answer to that is when would I have time to garden.Gardening is my favorite past time ,there is so much beauty and wonder in a bud that opens up to a multi colored flower.Come summer you will all get very bored of my postings.Its getting late, and I need my beauty sleep.
